about
I was presented with the opportunity to record live at MaTones Music directly onto a vinyl record, and it was really cool. And given the nature of the experience and the recording style, I chose to tackle my oldest song in a softer way. So this is that.
All would-be profits from the sale of this single will be going to the local vet (Limerick Veterinary Hospital) that relentlessly tried to help save the life of the cat I wrote this song about.
I'm unsure yet how I will be selling the physical vinyl, but it's my plan to do so.

lyrics
"I have spent too much of my life opening doors for cats — I once calculated that, since the dawn of civilization, nine hundred and seventy-eight man-centuries have been used up that way. I could show you figures." - Robert A. Heinlein, "The Door Into Summer"

Lyrics:
Restless,
you won't settle down this time.
You're pacing back and forth,
and calling a name that's mine.
Pleading,
you come and lay by my side.
Soon you stand up again,
what you want, you can't decide.
I hope you find it,
I know you're sick,
But I just need more time.
To feel your warmth beside me.
And see you play outside.
I'll open doors just so,
one day you'll find it.
Dumbstruck, I know.
There can't be more than this.
I can't forget you,
you know I'll always miss,
your kind indifference,
you're loving touch,
your arrogance,
I'll turn the handle one more time.
I hope you find it,
I'll help you to find it,
I know you're gonna find it.
I know you're sick,
But I just need more time.
To feel your warmth beside me.
And see you play outside.
I'll open doors just so,
one day you'll find it.

Lathe-cut on an antique record cutting lathe live as it was performed at MaTones Music in Collegeville, PA on September 16th, 2017. Recording and cutting done by Leesta Vall Sound Recordings. Digital recording made directly from the artists turntable line-out.
Song as performed - written by Frankly Lost Marsters.
Frankly Lost is a rogue personality fronting a slowly-ever-growing band of misfits making highly energetic and earnest DIY
music that feels somewhere between fringey singer-songwriter Art and ska-punk. Following in the tradition of American Folk music, their works are musically and lyrically simple, charged with emotion, and inspired by acts such as Erik Petersen’s Mischief Brew and Frank Turner....more
I've made music with these guys before, and will likely do so again soon. They're a great group of dudes, tons of fun live, and I like this album a lot. Hoping to hear more from them soon. Frankly Lost
Before I started recording music in a van, I was recording in a basement. That's where I recorded this excellent folk-punk EP for Jonny Bear. He's a great friend and a rad musician. Frankly Lost
Post-addiction introspection, the scorn of the heartbroken, and a rippin' bouncy mandolin. Get angry, be hurt, smile a lot, and definitely shout along with your stereo. It'll get stuck in your head. Frankly Lost
This sweet, mournful “loose concept” album from folk artist Ian McCuen tracks a journey across the bleak landscape of American life. Bandcamp New & Notable Nov 22, 2022
Charming German indie pop with the keen melodic sensibilities and melancholic undercurrent of some of the style's best practitioners. Bandcamp New & Notable Jan 26, 2021
